Instructional marking - O.H.M.S.


A number of messages - for transmission ordelivery - had the letters OHMS written on them
These letters stood for ON HER MAJESTY'S SERVICE. Naturally such forms are scarce as they were for official government business.
ransmission forms were supposed ot have been kept anyway.

In addition to the early use of the Delivery type 3B form shown elsewhere dated 4 April 1865, three additional examples of the OHMS manuscript annotation for Victoria are shown below.


A delivery form (VC-DO-4A) concerning the Naval Band was sent from Williamstown to Richmond on
11 December 1867. Being part of the Navy the band was entitled to use the OHMS annotation.

Transmission form VC-TO-7A with the OHMS annotation was used on police business regarding Court Hearings on
14 October 1978 - sent from Seymour to Benalla.
Another delivery form with a manuscript OHMS on the left and below the heading was sent from Melbourne to Richmond on 3 March 1873 (VC-DO-6).


Delivery form VC-DO-9 sent from the Public Offices to the Town Clerk at Richmonn on 8 March 1881.
Has the Instructional Marking O.H.M.S. next to CHECK in top LH box indicating the message was sent on official business and not charged.
